About us

Our mission

Our services

Our mission

Our mission is to ensure people are not charged more than they can afford to pay for their care. Councils have a duty to ensure they do not charge people more than they can afford, and many continue to charge too much. Council's must follow complex regulations, and we know those regulations inside out!

Our team

Our services

Our mission

Our team have over 40 years experience working with the regulations and laws that govern council charging policies. We work closely with families, their carers and their council's to ensure fairness, often freeing vulnerable people from the burden of unaffordable social care charges.

Our services

Disputing council care charges

Many people can't afford their care charges, but some continue to pay without challenge through fear of losing their care and support. With your consent, our advisors can check the council's financial assessment for you, and if we think it's wrong we can ask them to put it right.

Resolving social care debt

Some people find themselves with social care debt with the council, because they have insufficient money to live on. We can check this for you, and if we think you've been charged unfairly we will tell the council and ask them to put it right. If we think the charges are fair but you are unable to pay the accrued debt, we may be able to negotiate a settlement on your behalf. In many cases this can lead to debts being reduced or written off, giving people the chance to budget better going forward.

Completing financial assessment forms

We can ensure you, or someone you know, are not overcharged by the council from the start. Our advisors know the complex rules and can help to identify all of the expenses council's must consider. We can offer advice on how to complete the forms, or in some cases we can complete the forms on your behalf.

Free initial consultation

If any of the above apply to you or someone you know, we can discuss your situation. We'll ask a few questions, and then tell you whether we may be able to help. If we don't think we can help we will tell you straight away. If we think we can help we'll ask if you want to receive more details about our services, and how much it costs. You can then decide whether you want to take the next steps from the comfort of your home.

Customer reviews

Barry, 39

'I had no idea I'd have to pay towards my carer when I came out of hospital, and I quickly got in to debt with the council. One of my carers introduced me to Social Care Charges, they took the time to understand how I was struggling financially, and now I don't have to pay anything towards my care'

Couple, age undisclosed

Sheila: 'There was no way we could afford £130 each week. It was a minefield and I was so worried we would lose John's carers.'

John: 'They helped us to identify all of the extra costs we have since my fall because of the things I can no longer do myself''

Maria, 82

'After Derek's stroke I was asked to complete a financial assessment form by the council and I just didn't know where to start. Derek always did the money things. Natalie was so helpful and patient. She called me 3 times to get the form filled in correctly, and I am so grateful for her support'

'I had a free initial consultation with an advisor and after I explained everything they said the council were right and they couldn't help me. I'm pleased I checked things out as the call didn't cost me anything and I have since paid the council what I owe'

Care agency worker

'I see so many people in their own homes who can barely afford food and heating let alone pay care charges. I give them Social Care Charges contact details and I think most of the time they are able to help these vulnerable people. I think the first conversation is free and they only charge a small amount if they think they can help the person'
